Nubia’s new Redmagic Astra gaming tablet is a strong upgrade for gamers

Portable gaming consoles are always in demand, and this time Nubia has launched an Android gaming tablet that directly competes with the Nintendo Switch 2. It’s called Redmagic Tablet 3 Pro, and it’s already available in China. In Western markets, it will be launched as the Redmagic Astra Gaming Tablet.

A powerful gaming tablet with high-end specs and strong design at this price is rare to find.

Smaller screen with OLED panel but much better clarity and brightness

This tablet has a 9.06-inch OLED display with 2.4K resolution and up to 165Hz refresh rate. The older Redmagic Nova had a 10.9-inch LCD display with only 144Hz refresh rate. The new model is smaller in size but offers better screen quality.

Brightness is now doubled too – it reaches up to 1,100 nits which is great for outdoor use. Since the Nintendo Switch 2 does not have OLED, this gives the Redmagic Astra a major advantage.

Global release date, price and special offer for early buyers

The global price of the Redmagic Astra Gaming Tablet is $499 or €499. But if you buy it early between 10 July to 15 July, you can get it for $469 or €469, and you also get a free 80W charger.

The tablet will be available from 16 July on Redmagic’s official global store.

Inside specs are made for serious gaming

Nubia has used the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Elite processor, which is faster and more efficient than the previous model. It is not the same overclocked version used in Redmagic 10S Pro, but still a big improvement.

It also includes the RedCore R3 Pro chip, which can upscale games to 2K resolution and run them at 120Hz refresh rate. This makes gameplay much smoother.

Cooling is also very good with the ICE-X cooling system, which includes a vapour chamber, liquid metal compound, and a dedicated fan. This helps the device stay cool even during long gaming sessions.

RAM, storage and battery are all powerful

Redmagic Astra supports LPDDR5T RAM with three options:

• 12GB

• 16GB

• 24GB

Storage uses high-speed UFS 4.1 Pro technology with these choices:

• 256GB

• 512GB

• 1TB

Battery size is also big  with 8,200mAh, which is good for long gaming use. It also supports 80W fast charging, so it charges quickly.

Design and extras are made for gamers

The design keeps the usual Redmagic style – solid aluminium body, semi-transparent flat back, and RGB lighting. This makes the tablet look good for gaming setups.

One of the best features is the pre-installed PC emulator, which can run big games like Tomb Raider at full frame rates. You can also use the Redmagic Shadow Blade Gamepad 3, which comes with Hall-effect analog sticks. These sticks are not available in the Switch 2.

So, even if you were not thinking about a Switch 2 alternative, this tablet gives tough competition to handheld gaming PCs like Steam Deck.
