Meta is gearing up for its biggest event of the year, Meta Connect 2024. In the event, the company is likely to announce several new devices which might be heavy on Artificial Intelligence.
One might expect to see a brand-new VR headset, a pair of advanced smart glasses and even some big surprises. The focus of the event will likely be a fusion of Meta’s mixed-reality efforts and its AI ambitions across its product line.
The event is likely to introduce the company’s newest Llama large language model and image generator in apps like WhatsApp. Chatbots form an important part of Meta’s AI plan.
What to expect from Meta Connect 2024
The social media giant is rumoured to reveal the latest range of smart wearable devices, infused with AI, as stated below:
Orion AR Glasses
Meta is expected to unveil its first augmented reality (AR) glasses, which are internally called ‘Orion AR Glasses’. Leaks suggest that these glasses will generate a seamless augmented reality experience with features akin to the Meta Quest.
The Orion AR glasses, which is likely to be a standalone device, will be equipped with holographic displays, microphones, cameras and AI integration.
Due to their advanced features, these glasses are expected to come at a premium price. The glasses are developed in partnership with EssilorLuxottica (Ray-Ban’s parent company).

Meta Quest 3S VR headset
In an answer to the Apple Vision Pro, Meta might announce a cheaper version of its VR headset- the Quest 3S. Expected to be priced at around USD 300, the VR headset could replace the Quest 2, offering an affordable option for users without losing out too much on performance.
The device is further expected to come with 128GB of storage, but might lack some of the premium features found in the more expensive Quest 3.
Meta-Rayban smart glasses
Meta is likely to introduce new and improved Meta-Rayban Smart Glasses which are expected to feature a sleeker design, improved battery life, enhanced audio performance powered by AI.
Possible software announcements
In addition to hardware, Meta might unveil upgrades to its social platforms, including Facebook and Instagram. The company is further likely to present Llama 3.1, an upgraded version of its open-source large language model.
Meta Connect 2024: Event details
Meta Connect 2024 will take place on Wednesday, September 25 and end the next day on Thursday, September 26. The event will be live-streamed on the official Meta Connect website and Facebook.
The conference will start with the Connect keynote, headlined by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, 10AM (Pacific Time), followed immediately by a Developer keynote at 11AM (Pacific Time).
